As of the 17th March 2020 we will only be offering telephone appointments. There will be no face to face appointments until further notice to protect our communities against the spread of this virus.
All telephone appointments booked with us will go ahead unless we contact you to tell you otherwise.
Our volunteers who provide the advice remain committed to victims during this challenging time and we thank them for their kindness in doing so.
Each client is entitled to one free legal consultation with one of our specialist solicitors. Each appointment lasts around 30 minutes.
There are a number of ways to ensure that the pages you search won’t appear in your browser history. “Incognito browsing,” means that it leaves no trace of your browsing activity. To go incognito open up a Google Chrome browser. Hover over the right hand side of the top pane to find the’customise and control google chrome’ icon. Select this and choose from the menu ‘New incognito window’. A new window will appear to use.
Usual internet browsers in most cases keep a record of all the web pages you visit, a ‘history’. To delete your browser history whilst using an internet browser hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard and then press the H key. A list of sites visited or searched will appear and you may select individual sites you wish to no longer appear in your history. Select the items you wish to disguise and select delete.
There is a Cover Your Tracks function that transfers you immediately to a commonly used shopping site. It is marked ‘QUICK EXIT’ and is a feature that allows you to navigate away from our website pages immediately should your privacy be interrupted by someone whilst you are visiting our website. On every page of our website you will notice the red QUICK EXIT button to the top of the page. Click this button and the page will immediately change to a commonly used shopping site.
We regularly use interpreters and work with an organisation that has an extensive list of languages available. They have quick access to a pool of interpreters, covering all major languages.
Many of the interpreters have experienced migration themselves and can provide an accurate, culturally-sensitive and sympathetic service.
Yes, we are fully accessible. Please let us know beforehand if you have any accessibility concerns to enable us to make any necessary arrangements.
Absolutely. We are always looking for volunteer solicitors to support us in the work we do. Our insurance does require that all volunteers must be qualified solicitors. If you are interested please contact us on enquiries@flagdv.appcentricuat.co.uk with your area of expertise we will get in touch.
We do not have parking available at all clinic locations however we can always direct you to car parks nearby if you require parking.
We are not able to provide accommodation but we work very closely with other organisations who support victims of domestic abuse in a situation where they need accommodation. Our solicitors can support you with any housing issues that may need resolving
Of course, we believe that it is important for everyone to be able to access our support and understand that childcare is not always available. We do have a box of toys to keep small children occupied for a short time. Please do consider that the discussions that take place during the clinic may not always be appropriate for children to hear. A great deal of research has been undertaken on the impact of domestic abuse on children. See the NSPCC website for further information.
Our experienced family law solicitors will be able to advise you on how to obtain a non-molestation order, and any other orders if they are appropriate.
It is important to have everything you need to hand however it is also worth noting that the appointment is only 30 minutes in length and that the solicitor will not have sufficient time to review documents in great detail. It is up to you to make the best use of the time available. We always advice our clients to have a list of questions that you would like answered prior to attending the appointment for this reason.
A large proportion of our clients speak to the solicitor via the telephone as they are unable to attend a face to face meeting due to their circumstances. The solicitors are comfortable providing telephone advice. We would suggest that in order to make the most of the time available you are prepared for the meeting and have a list of questions that you would like answered.
Some of our solicitors support legal aid clients however not all do. The ones who are unable to take on legal aid clients will be able to direct you to a local solicitor who can.
If you can't find the answer to your question, please visit our Contact Us page.
Send us your questions by calling, email, writing to us or filling in our contact form and we will be in touch as soon as possible.
