On Monday 16th September volunteers and staff from the charity took part in the annual 10km Reading Legal Walk organised by the Access to Justice Foundation, https://www.atjf.org.uk/ A total of 27 teams and 200 walkers registered and took part in the Reading based event raising an amazing £9000 (so far) for frontline free legal advice services in the community.
5 support organisations/charities and 22 legal firms made up the 27 teams that walked on the beautifully sunny evening. How wonderful are all those legal teams not only for walking but some providing volunteering their services at our free legal advice clinics! It looks like we made some new friends this year and we hope to welcome them into our volunteer legal advisor network.
We are extremely proud to boast second place for Flag DV on the fundraising leader board, having raised a whopping £1300 towards the overall walk total. We expect to receive match funding from Vodafone in response to two representatives from the company joining our team for the evening. Other guests who joined us on the walk included Councillor Jeff Cant from West Berkshire Council, Claire Gould from the West Berkshire Lottery, a partner from St James’ Place Wealth Management in Newbury & our four legged mascot Ralph the dog!
Next year we intend to increase our target fundraising total again and thank every single person who donated money or their time to this fantastic fundraising event. Money raised by Flag DV from this event will support our 2020-2021 service delivery. Client referrals into the Flag DV service are increasing every month and currently we offer an average of 256 free legal advice appointments per year. For our 2020-2021 project we expect to be offering 360 appointments over the year in the Thames Valley area.
